Crispy, protein-packed, fiber-rich, and made with wholesome seeds, nuts, and just enough sweetness to keep you coming back, these Healthy Black Sesame Seed Crackers are an easy grab-and-go snack that helps hold you over until you can enjoy a more complete meal.

Made for Busy Days

My sister-in-law is one of the hardest-working people I know. She’s constantly on the go, doesn’t love cooking, and if I’m being honest—breakfast just doesn’t happen for her most days. By the time she has a chance to think about food, she’s already running on empty.

I made these crackers with her in mind—something she could reach for when a complete meal isn’t in the cards, but her body still needs real fuel.

No prep-heavy steps, no babysitting a stove, and nothing that requires her to be a cook. Just mix, press, bake, and forget about it. In return, she has a wholesome snack with protein, fiber, and healthy fats for an entire week instead of another grab-and-go snack that’s low in fiber and leaves her hungry again before long.

This recipe is for anyone who wants to eat better without making it complicated. If that’s you (or someone you love), these crackers are for you.

They’re perfect for meal prep, afternoon snacking, lunch boxes, road trips, or anytime you need a wholesome snack between meals.

More Than Just a Cracker

There’s no flour, no grain, and no filler here—just eight whole-food seeds and nuts working together to create exceptional flavor, satisfying crunch, and a broader range of nutrients. Black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp hearts, flaxseed, and chia seeds come together in one wholesome snack built for steady energy.

The magic binder is simple: flaxseed and chia seeds soak in water until they form a thick, gel-like mixture that holds everything together as the crackers bake—no eggs or dairy needed. A touch of soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari) and maple syrup adds just the right balance of savory and sweet, so these never taste like “diet food.” They taste like something you’d actually crave.

Baking them low and slow at 325°F gently toasts the seeds, creating their rich, nutty flavor and irresistibly crisp texture.

Kale & Berries Nutrition Insight 🌿

✓ Fills you up — Variety of seeds and nuts provide plant-based protein and fiber that can help keep you satisfied between meals.

✓ Omega-3s — Flaxseed and chia are two of the best plant-based sources of omega-3 fats, supporting heart health while also forming the gel that holds these crackers together.

✓ Mineral-richBlack sesame seeds are especially rich in calcium, iron, and magnesium—nutrients many people don’t get enough of, especially when meals are frequently skipped.

✓ Just enough sweetness — Only 3 tablespoons of maple syrup for the whole batch, balancing the tamari or soy sauce without turning this into a sugary snack.

✓ Steady energy, not a spike — Protein and fiber slow digestion, helping promote steadier energy and making this snack more satisfying than many refined, low-fiber options.

Storage & Meal Prep

Batch it on Sunday
With only 15 minutes of hands-on time, this is an easy one to make once and snack on all week.

Room temp, not fridge
Once fully cooled, store in an airtight container, away from sunlight and at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. The fridge adds moisture and softens the crunch.

Freeze for later
These hold up well in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months—just thaw at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before eating.

Let them finish cooling before breaking
They keep crisping up as they cool, so patience pays off. Rustic, uneven pieces are part of the charm.

Toss them in a bag and go
Sturdy enough for a purse, backpack, desk drawer, or glove compartment—no cooler required.

Description

Crispy homemade Healthy Black Sesame Seed Crackers made with black sesame seeds, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp hearts, flaxseed, and chia. Protein-packed, fiber-rich, and perfect for meal prep or healthy snacking.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup black sesame seeds
  • 2 Tbsp white sesame seeds
  • 3 Tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup hemp hearts
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup pistachios, roughly chopped
  • 2 Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 2 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp flaky sea salt
  • 2 tsp soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari)
  • 3 Tbsp pure maple syrup

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat the oven
Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a 9 × 13-inch quarter sheet pan or small rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper..

2️⃣ Make the binder
In a small bowl, stir together the ground flaxseed, chia seeds, and water. Let stand for 10 minutes, until thick and gel-like.

3️⃣ Mix the cracker dough
In a medium bowl, combine the black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp hearts, cinnamon, and flaky sea salt. Stir the soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari) and maple syrup into the flax-chia mixture thoroughly, then pour over the dry ingredients. Mix until everything is evenly coated.

4️⃣ Spread thin
Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and spread it into an even layer. Place a second sheet of parchment paper on top, then firmly press with the back of a flat spatula or roll the mixture into a thin, even layer. Carefully remove the top sheet of parchment.

5️⃣ Bake
Bake for 40-45 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until deep golden brown and crisp around the edges.

6️⃣ Cool completely
Let cool on the baking sheet for 20–30 minutes. The crackers will continue to crisp as they cool. Once completely cool, break into rustic pieces.

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

    1. Thank you! That’s exactly what I was hoping for. There are so many store-bought crackers with long ingredient lists, so I wanted to create one made with simple, nutritious ingredients without sacrificing that crispy crunch. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment!
