A healthy twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak — bold flavor, better ingredients, and steady energy that lasts long after the last bite.

Cheesesteak and peppers tortilla wrap with melted Swiss and Gruyere cheese, sautéed onions, and colorful bell peppers in a soft tortilla — a healthy high-protein take on a Philly cheesesteak wrap.

A Philly Story Worth Remembering

I still remember my first visit to Philadelphia. I think it was right after college. Sure, it’s the birthplace of American independence — where they signed the Declaration and the Constitution and all that.

But you know what I actually remember most? The Philly cheesesteak.

Greasy, loaded with meat, barely a vegetable in sight — and topped with bright orange Cheese Whiz that somehow just worked. I was young, it was late, and standing on that corner with a hot cheesesteak in my hands? That was the real experience.

There’s something about those classic Philly cheesesteak spots. You smell the onions and beef from down the block. You hear the sizzle and chop of the griddle. You step up, order your “whiz wit,” and then you’re just standing there on the sidewalk with strangers — grease dripping everywhere, completely in the moment. It’s messy, it’s unpretentious, and it’s so good.

I still crave that feeling — that warm, satisfying, nothing-else-matters kind of comfort. But these days? I don’t miss the food coma that came after.

That’s why I created this healthier version. It keeps all that bold, craveable flavor but uses real ingredients that actually support your energy instead of draining it.

Because the best food should taste amazing and help you feel your best. 💚

About Philly Cheesesteak

The Philly cheesesteak was born in the 1930s when brothers Pat and Harry Olivieri decided to grill thin slices of beef and tuck them into a hoagie roll — a creation that caught on fast with taxi drivers and hungry locals. Over time, melted cheese (first provolone, later Cheez Whiz) and sautéed onions became signature toppings.

My Cheese Steak and Peppers Tortilla Wrap brings that same bold flavor, but swaps the heavy roll for a lighter tortilla, loads up on colorful veggies, and uses high-quality ingredients to keep your energy steady long after the last bite.

Classic Flavor, Without the Grease

All the flavor, none of the slump: Thinly sliced ribeye, caramelized onions, and peppers bring the classic taste — without the grease overload.

Energizing ingredients: Trader Joe’s Swiss & Gruyere Cheese Blend melts beautifully and adds a touch of sophistication. Swiss and Gruyere cheeses contain more omega-3 fats than most other cheeses, supporting brain and heart health.

Quick and easy: Ready in under 30 minutes with simple ingredients and one skillet.

Smart swap: Wrapped in a tortilla instead of a heavy hoagie for a lighter version that fuels you instead of slowing you down.

Super Easy to Make

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided (plus more as needed)
1 lb thinly sliced ribeye (or shaved beef)
1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
6 medium-size tortillas
1 cup Trader Joe’s Swiss & Gruyere Cheese Blend, shredded (provolone or American cheese as alternatives)
Pickled jalapeño peppers, to taste (highly recommended)

Instructions:

1️⃣ Sauté the vegetables
Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and bell peppers. Season with a little salt and pepper. Sauté for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly caramelized. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

2️⃣ Cook the steak
Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the same skillet. Add the thinly sliced ribeye and cook for 2-3 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and cooked through. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

3️⃣ Combine and melt
Return the cooked onions and peppers to the skillet with the steak. Toss everything together, then turn off the heat. Immediately top with shredded cheese, cover the pan, and let the residual heat melt the cheese for 1–2 minutes.

4️⃣ Warm the tortillas
While the cheese melts, warm tortillas in a dry skillet or on a griddle for about 10–15 seconds per side until soft and pliable. You can also reheat them in the microwave, covered with a damp paper towel (30 seconds works for me.)

5️⃣ Assemble the wraps
Spoon the cheesy steak-and-pepper mixture into the warm tortillas. Top with pickled jalapeños for a tangy kick.

6️⃣ Serve and enjoy
Fold and serve hot — the perfect blend of savory steak, sweet peppers, and melty cheese wrapped in a soft tortilla.

Nutrient Boosters

🥬 Add More Veggies

• Baby spinach or arugula for extra nutrients
• Caramelized mushrooms for umami depth
• Orange or yellow peppers for more vitamin C

🥑 Add Creaminess & Flavor

• Avocado slices
• Sriracha, for a spicy kick

🌯 Switch It Up

• Portobello mushrooms or tofu instead of steak
• Whole-wheat tortillas for extra fiber, or almond-flour tortillas for lower carbs
• Add an egg for extra protein and staying power

Storage & Meal Prep

Fridge: Store cooled filling in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Reheat: Warm in a skillet before wrapping for the best texture.

Meal prep idea: Cook the steak and veggies ahead, then assemble wraps fresh each day for quick, energizing lunches.

Because YOU Matter 💚

Food memories are powerful — they connect us to moments, places, and feelings we never want to forget. This wrap keeps the soul of the Philly cheesesteak alive, just made with better ingredients and a little more intention.

Because feeling good after you eat is what gives you the energy to live your life fully.
